A year later, he met Audrey Hepburn, creating her iconic little black dress for the movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s and asking her to star in an advertising campaign for his new fragrance, L’Interdit. He also teamed up with fellow designer Cristobal Balenciaga in the mid-1950s, collaborating to launch a new silhouette called “the sack.”

By the 1960s, Hubert was embracing youth culture and incorporating shorter hemlines and sleeker silhouettes in his designs. He created a global brand in the 1960s, signing licensee agreements for everything from children’s wear to perfumes, and sold it to Bernard Arnault and the luxury group LVMH in 1988. Hubert maintained a creative role until 1995, and Waight Keller continues his tradition of impeccable tailoring and joyful designs.
